Essential Oils

Have I ever mentioned how much I love essential oils?
Probably not. Because I almost never update my blog! Yeah, I'm lazy like that.
Anyway, I really love essential oils.
I'm 22 year old a dance teacher trying to dance like a 16 year old. I am reminded on a daily basis that my muscles don't like me but! I have essential oils! I love them so much, I'm a distributor for Young Living.

Today's blog post focus:

Clove Essential Oil

Most essential oil users will mention Peppermint as their favorite essential oil. Not me. Granted, I like peppermint and all, but Clove is definitely my favorite. I go through a 15 mil bottle on a monthly basis and my reason is that it really helps the muscle pain.
I have muscles in my lower back that hate arabesques.
Showing here:

Clove oil helps a lot. It works as a pain reliever. Not an anti-inflamatory, mind you, I have peppermint, ortho-sport, peace and calming, lavender and eucalyptus blue for that which I mix together with the clove, but the Clove oil is essential (Pun intended). It works better than Icy-Hot! First it gets really hot and stays hot for several minutes (That's the clove oil) and then it starts to cool. I actually have to get a blanket usually (that's mostly the peppermint). The next morning I feel better...that is until I practice my arabesques again...

Clove oil is great for mouth sores! It's pretty spicy, but if you can stand that, say goodbye to mouth pain. I wish I'd had this stuff 4 years ago when they took out my wisdom teeth!

Last but not least, Clove oil is really great on bug bites! My Oma (paternal grandmother) has a horrible problem with bug bites. She does a lot of gardening and well, creepy crawlies don't like having their cozy little dirt homes destroyed. Oma's worst issue, though, is that the conventional bug bite relievers such as benadryl cream and other such things found in your local grocery store don't work on her. They provide absolutely no relief. Clove oil, on the other hand, works so well she bought a bottle from me on the spot.
I myself have been using it for mosquito bites, and I've tried it on my little sister's numerous little red bumps as well with lots of success.

So, in conclusion, if you've just recently heard about Essential oils, and are wondering which one to try first, try Clove.

Christmas Break!!!!!

No more classes until next year!! Maybe I'll be able to catch up on my laundry now...hmm

So for this Christmas, I am actually earning a real paycheck, from both jobs! Thanks to that blessing, I'm actually able to afford Christmas presents for everyone!! Yay!! Unfortunately, being able to afford Christmas presents still involves spending a lot of money, or at least, my version of the term 'a lot of money'. You would think that with only two adults and 3 kids to shop for...well, two adults, one kid and two teenagers (who would be perfectly satisfied with $10.00 gift cards to Panda Express), that it shouldn't be too hard to come up with Christmas gifts that don't make me cringe every time I pull out my card. But alas things are not as they should be. If they were I would have a really cute car instead of an ever so faithful van that needs duct tape on the right side mirror, has a broken left turn signal and nonexistent A/C. I would be able to spend as much money as I want on anything I wanted; I'm thinking it would mostly involve buying lots of cute clothes. I would have my own studio to practice in and would be able to have private coaching sessions every day. I would also have my own very large desk. Something like this...

Just think, not only would my computer and printer fit on this, but I could also keep my sewing stuff on it. With an added bonus of shelf space for my Breyer Horse collection!! Note: I'm an keeping myself blissfully unaware of the price tag.
Oh yeah, and I'd have at least one really big German Shepherd dog that worships the ground I walk on...sigh.

Still, even with life the way it is , constantly running around, freaking out because I think I'm 30 seconds late and always craving Chinese food, there are perks.

To name a few:
1.) Tomorrow evening, my students and I will be dancing our Christmas performance at Ingram Park Mall right smack in front of Dillards. This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase my students' talents, as well as my teaching skills. I think I'll stop at Panda while I'm there...
2.) I finally have my own space heater for my bedroom! It's currently working very hard at keeping my room temperature a blissful 80* during the day and 85* at night. It is my hope that warmer air throughout the night will result in less achy joints in the morning.
3.) NETFLIX!! For those times that I am actually home. It makes folding and hanging up large amounts of laundry and putting it all away in my Mary Poppins closet, that much more enjoyable.
4.) I am also (recently) able to afford food sometimes. I was able to treat Mandy (little sister, age 8) to Sonic this afternoon. I would have taken her to the Wok Inn, but she doesn't like Asian food (Insert all manner of horrified, shocked and dismayed sound effects here). This was great for Mandy because she is always asking for food. The kid's meal "toy" was stupid, as usual, but who cares when you have incredibly unhealthy french fries to enjoy?

And that's the end of my really long, strange post that very clearly spells out (I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING INTERESTING TO WRITE BUT I'M REALLY BORED). Now that I've successfully wasted 10 minutes of your time, I wish you luck in finding more interesting and hopefully more amusing reading material elsewhere.

Dairy-Free Pancake heaven!

For those of us who love pancakes and struggle daily with a dairy allergy, or lactose intolerance, breakfast can result in some very unpleasant cravings; until today!

Forget Mary Kay (and other random updates)

I've decided that Mary Kay isn't for me. Or rather, I should say Selling Mary Kay isn't for me. I still love the products, but I do much better with a regular job. So, I am now a receptionist at Town And Country Vet. I LOVE this job!! I got to play with a little German Shepherd mix puppy who was only about 6 weeks old. She was so cute!! She was more intent on getting as close to me as physically possible than she was at playing and every time someone started talking about her she would look at the person and cock her head. Hilarious!!

As I am sure you have already noticed, my blog name (Born to Dance) doesn't seem to have any pictures or blog posts to suggest I actually dance. haha. Well, I'm adding some pictures!!!

A New Post!! Warning: May Come Off As A Sales Pitch, Because That's Exactly What It Is.

Well, I haven't been here in a while...

I know, shame on me. I keep saying there really isn't anything to blog about, and technically I'm right, but I've recently become an Independant Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics and I figured, why not blog about all the products that I've tried and liked/disliked? Perfect!! Something to blog about!
Now I've been using the Timewise Ultimate Miracle set for about a month now, and I really like it. In fact I don't think there is one product that I don't like. The 3-in-1 cleasner gets all the grease off, (and I've got a lot of grease by the end of the day) and the Microderm Abrasion step 1 is AMAZING!! It's just abrasive enough to smooth out my skin and clean out my pores like they've never been cleaned before, and the Step 2 Replenish closes my pores back up and soothes the skin after the harsh scrubbing of the Step 1. The age-fighting moisturizer is just enough to moisturizer my skin without replacing all of the nasty grease that I had just finished washing off and the Day Solution and Night Solution are fantastic too. The Night Solution provides a lot of vitamins and anti-oxidants to my skin that I was previously applying with oils such as Vitamin E, Jojoba and Shea and as wonderful as those were, I can tell my skin is a lot healthier now with the continued use of the Night Solution. The Day solution has sunscreen in it which doesn't smell strongly so I can put it on every day and not have to worry about smelling like I'm on my way to the pool. The Firming Eye cream? Wow. Even on my incredibly young skin I can tell a difference. If I ever develop crow's feet, or laugh lines, it won't be for a long time!
When it comes to the foundation that comes with the Ultimate Miracle Set I have to say I really prefer the Mineral Powder Foundation. I'll use the Timewise Liquid Matte-wear foundation for spot cover-ups but I prefer the Mineral Foundation for the rest of my face. My sensitive eye-lids don't have a problem with it and my face doesn't feel like it has much of anything on it.
Then there is the complimentary bag. I LOVE that bag! I bring it to all my parties and consultations because it holds everything! Okay, I do have a separate bag for my paperwork, pens, calculator, etc. but my roll up travel bag holds every single bottle and tube of product that I need for my demonstrations. If you ask me nicely, I'll tell you about it, or show it to you in person. Unless of course you're from out of town in which case I would be happy to send you a demonstrative video.

That is the basic package that I center my parties and personal consultations around. There are two other products however, that I have just recently tried. They don't come in the Ultimate Miracle set, but they are sooooo worth paying for.

First Product: Mary Kay Intense Moisturizing Cream for Dry skin
First of all, while I have very greasy skin on my face, my legs are incredibly dry. So that's why I bought this product. I wanted to see if it would work better than any of the other intense moisturizing lotions that I've tried before. Result: It works!!!!! My legs stay hydrated for more than 12 hours!! I don't even have to use very much, maybe 1 1/2 tablespoons worth per leg, if that. I'm very happy to have this product. I will never go without it again so help me!

Second Product: The Timewise Even Complexion Mask
Wow. Slap this mask on, leave it for 12 to 15 minutes and rinse it off, you'll see and feel a difference after the first use. My skin is so purified it's lighter and softer! I just used it for the first time today so we'll see if it helps with the acne, but so far I'm quite impressed.

So those are my product raves for the week. My encouragement to you: go to my website: http://www.marykay.com/amyDfehrenbach/default.aspx and try out the miracle set! You can get just the Miracle Set, which includes the cleanser, moisturizer, day and night solutions, or you can get the Ultimate Miracle set which includes the cleanser, moisturizer, day and night solutions, the Microderm Abrasion set Steps 1 and 2, the firming eye cream, foundation of your choice with complimentary powder brush (unless you prefer the liquid in which case an applicator is not needed) and to top it all off you get a complimentary Travel Roll Up Bag to hold it all! Or you can go to the website and pick out a lip-gloss. Your choice. Just as long as you know that all the profits that I receive from each sale goes to paying for my Ballet Teacher's certification classes, the gas to get there and what ever repairs my dear, aged vehicle may require to keep running. For now Mom and Dad are paying for almost everything except for gas, but I would like to be able to help a bit more. So help me help them!! Support my business and beautify and rejuvenate your skin in the process!

Misha's Rules

Our new kitten Misha has come up with her own rules regarding how you eat, sleep, or otherwise act throughout your day. A few of these I have already posted on Facebook.

Misha's Rules:

#1.) When petting me, you must use both hands and face.

#2.) Do not sit down with a lactose-free glass of milk or bowl of vanilla ice cream unless you intend to share. I WILL get onto your lap and attempt to stick my face into the dairy deliciousness. Why? Because Amy spoils me greatly and allows me to lick the bowl clean when she's done, providing she hasn't put in any chocolate or anything else that might be harmful to me.

#3.) I LOVE it when you are using the heating pad on your leg, arm or other area that would allow me to share it with you.

#4.) When you're making dinner, I KNOW you are using raw meat. I must have my share.

#5.) Humans should not be allowed to sleep any longer than 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. without feeding me, playing with me (i.e. I pounce on your feet while they are under the sheets) or giving me at least 10 minutes of love at which time I will bury my face into your neck or face and knead my front (clipped) claws against your skin while you stroke me lovingly.

#6.) If I feel like playing, do not be surprised if I pounce on your feet.

#7.) I REALLY like it when you stalk me back.

#8.) I don't really like my dry food, I prefer the expensive stuff from the can, or even better, the raw meat you just thawed out for dinner.

#9.) I won't notice if you are wearing glasses until you take them off at which time I may attempt to run off with them if I find them to be particularly interesting.

These are all the rules I can think of to write at the moment. I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I log off.

My Recent Music Choices

Ever since I can remember I've listened to Christian music. I'd have to say my first favorite singer, that I can remember, was Amy Grant. Pretty soon I was listening to everything from Amy Grant to Thousand Foot Krutch. I prefered the harder music styles, but as I went through highschool, I became increasingly dissatisfied with the music Christian artists were performing. Most of it just seemed so, well, bland. While they tried to sound cool, they ended up sounding lame. Not one artist I found seemed to even think of using sythesizers, and if they did, they couldn't seem to learn how to use one properly.
Now, I listen to secular music. Artists like, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, Ne Yo, and even Lady Gaga frequent my playlists on my computer. All of these artists generally fit into the pop genre.
Today I decided to do a google search to see if I could find any Christian artists who had finally learned to write real pop music. I also decided that since my blog desperately needed an update anyway, that I would post the results of my research on here.

The results:
From several websites that listed artists by genre I compiled a list of 33 names. Then I googled each and every name and listened to the music that they had uploaded onto the internet. Myspace came in very handy. Of all 33 names, I found only 3 came anywhere close to real pop. Their names are:
- Britt Nicole, who actually sounds almost exactly like Kelly Clarkson. I gave her a 4 star.
- Group 1 Crew, who are closer to the hip hop genre. The vocals are quite good, but the instrument choices are still a little on the bare side. I gave them a 2 star.
- Yellow Cavalier, what made them choose the name of a car I don't know, but I'd give their music 3 stars. Their music wasn't quite pop, but it wasn't quite rock either. They are more in the middle. They did use a synthesizer in some of their songs, but just like the rest of the Christian music realm, they were still on the bare side.

So that's the result of my search for good Christian music. This is not to say that I don't enjoy other contemporary artists, I love Mark Schultz. But for my normal, everyday music choice, I'm stuck with secular music. This unfortunately, is the state of 90% of all Christian media today. It's outdated, bare, and badly written.

My latest projects

So today I decided that a new blog post was long over due. It's been so long since I've updated, there are bound to be at least a few things that have happened. My life is not very fast paced but I have worked on a few projects. So I've decided to talk about them, considering there isn't much of anything else to talk about.
In early June, Oma took me to several thrift stores (it's her idea of a really fun shopping spree). I found three dresses, two of them formal, at least a dozen knee length skirts and two blouses. All three dresses needed alterations, but since Oma (who graciously offered to pay for it all) was purchasing them at such a low price, I decided to go ahead and get them. One dress was a yellow floral print, halter top summer dress, very nice design, but the waist line was too high and it made me look pregnant. So now all I need to do is separate the top and bottom and add a three inch wide waist band of a matching solid colored fabric. The problem: I have to buy the fabric because, of course, we don't have the right color amongst the vast collection of fabrics and scraps currently in the house. Figures. I also do not have the money to buy even an 1/8th yard's worth of fabric, so that project will just have to wait a while.
The second dress was a blue satin halter top, extremely pretty. The fitting problem: Top part was WAY too small. In light of this I decided to simply cut off the top and turn the dress into a skirt. It fits beautifully.
The third dress was a very nice black dull satin, with intricate double princess seams. Extremely beautiful design and, if I was a bit smaller chested, it might have been perfect. But alas, I'm a size 4, not a 2. In examining the seams, however, I discovered that the previous owner had altered it to make it smaller that it would have been normally. There was so much excess seam allowance I was certain I could take them out and make the dress fit. This project turned out to be quite aggravating. I pulled out all the seams and sewed the thing back together with as little seam allowance as I could afford and it still didn't fit. It was still far too tight in the chest and to top it all off, it was now WAY too big in the waist. I discovered this after having worked on it for three weeks straight. I was not happy. After a little bit more studying I discovered that the inner lining is what was making the dress too tight up top. So, because there was no possible way for me to take the fabric out any more, I simply opened up the seams, finished the edges, and left them open. The lining wasn't really needed anyway. For the waist band I decided to save myself the grief of bringing the seams in again. Instead, I made a cummerbund, out of a black and red brocade that I had purchased from JOANN Fabrics earlier that year. So, after many weeks of frustration on a project that I never should have talked myself into in the first place, I am finally finished, and I'm even happy with the results.
When I went to California near the end of June, Oma took me to yet another thrift store and I, like the idiot I am, talked myself into purchasing a few more articles of clothing that needed alterations. This time, they were big poofy slip skirts, the kind one wears under a wedding dress. Well, those alterations weren't quite so frustrating, but they did add to the pile and I was really kicking my self for my stupid decision made in the interest of fashion. I sincerely hope that I have learned from this experience, but we'll have to wait and see.
This week, finally being over and done with the pile of alterations, I began on a new sewing project. A blouse that I could produce and sell on my website. I had chosen to use one of the pretty but slightly improper shirts that I have in the private section of my closet. Now, just to let everyone know, this section is not very big, in fact it consists of two shirts purchased at a garage sale for a ridiculously cheap price, and one mini skirt pajama bottom made from the scrap bag. But back to my original subject, I love this shirt, it is black with a slightly mexican influence, with elastic around the waist, collar and sleeves, making lots of ruffles. I love this shirt so much, that I decided to make another one similar to it that I can wear outside in public. So, without taking my beloved shirt apart, I traced the peices, made a few adjustments, and then began to construct the prototype out of more scraps from my scrap bag. Everything would have gone really well if I had chosen a different type of fabric. The fabric that I used didn't have a predetermined right or wrong side. As a result, I had finished putting the blouse together, sewed on the elastic, finished the edges, everything. Only to discover that one side of the shirt was inside out, and the other half right side in. I had sewn half the seams the wrong direction! Now, I beg you to believe me, I am VERY advanced in sewing. I'm really good at it. But for this project, I just wasn't working right in the head. I should have marked the wrong sides of the fabric before beginning, but I didn't. I figured I was smart enough not to need them. So much for that. My brain has been massively befuddled the past month and a half, what on earth made me think that it would work right for this project???
But, oh well. It was just the prototype anyway, made out of the over abundance of scraps hidden in my closet. The pattern works, the shirt fits, and if it wasn't for my stupidity, would have looked really nice. So I'm keeping the pattern, I'll work on it again when I'm a little less frustrated.
Moving on to other projects (and here I thought I had nothing to talk about),
I'm an avid gardener, I'm obsessed with growing things, mostly food. My gardening desires have been rather squelched due to a complete lack of garden space in our yard (oh how I hate living in the city) but I managed to satisfy the urges at least a little bit by using pots; big pots.
I am currently growing basil, bell peppers, thyme, green onions, chives, one peach tree (not in a pot) and about 8 mulberry treelings, grown from seeds saved from Illinois, where they grow wild. The mulberry seedlings have out grown their tiny pots (red plastic cups with holes in the bottom) and desperately need to be planted in the ground, speaking of which, who wants a mulberry tree??? These trees won't be ready to produce for at least 4 years, probably six, but due to the fact that they are wild stock, I have no doubt that they are hardy. They have gotten through this blistering summer with flying colors, and have even grown during that time. This has rather surprised me to be perfectly honest. Illinois summers are far more mild than in Texas and I had expected the heat to at least stunt their growth but I found that I was delightfully wrong. They grew very quickly, and the two that I planted in our yard only a week ago have already grown noticably bigger than the ones still in their pots.
I have had a great deal of difficulty with my bell pepper plants. I planted three of them from seed, only one out of the three grew big enough to produce fruit. I have that one in a very large pot on my patio and it was doing so well until a week ago. Last Wednesday morning, I discovered that a group of aphids had decided to colonize on the plant over night. I've had trouble with aphids already several times and I've learned how to kill them quickly. This I did with zeal; I probably enjoyed ousting the pests a little more than I should have. But alas, I was too late to prevent serious damage. The aphids had carried with them some sort of disease. Within 24 hours that beautifully full plant had lost all but 4 of it's leaves. Needless to say, I kind of freaked out. The plant had already started growing three bell peppers and they had been doing so well until then. In the interest of helping the plant save energy with which to fight the disease, I took off the little bell peppers. I then sprayed the plant down real good with an insecticide/fungicide hoping desperately that what was killing my plant was indeed a fungus and not a virus. The very next day, the largest of the remaining leaves had stopped yellowing, and even looked a little greener. The smaller leaves stopped puckering and started to flatten out again. Feeling relieved, I kept a close eye on it, and when it rained Friday night, I sprayed it again, thoroughly coating the leaves and stems from the top of the plant to the base. My poor plant still looks horribly scarred and forlorn, but I am positive it will recover. There are about a dozen new baby leaves peeking out from the scarred stubs and they all look green and healthy. I told Mom I felt like the doctor who's cancer patient has gone into remission. Extremely victorious and thankful to God for his mercy. I find it amazing, that even on plants, God chooses to work miracles. This must be why I'm addicted to gardening.

Promote my site!

So I decided to do a google search on all natural lip gloss and chapsticks etc. and I found that the only way to find my site is if you already knew the name of my business! (i.e. amys soaps n things) Then I discovered that when I'm logged onto my google account, I can promote my website by clicking on the up arrow button that is right next to the result. So now I have a request:

For those of you with a google account, please promote my website! My analitics application states that most people who go to my website either find it on a search engine or already know about it and go to it directly. By promoting my website you can encourage the flow of business that I desperately need! And if you can't find my website by doing a google search such as "natural chapstick" than you can add my site URL at the bottom of the search results page right under the pages list. Thank you so much!

I'm Home!

Here, as promised, is the story of our vacation. For pictures, though you'll have to go to Mom's blog (assuming she has time to post) because she had the camera.

We drove up to our rented house on Thursday afternoon just in time for supper. We then all got ourselves unpacked and organized and then went to Subway where we were served by two very slow employees.
The next day we started fishing. We tried the warf in the shipping channel first. That was a bust. No nibbles and lots of lost tackle. Next we went to the Getty, which didn't look so great because there was some serious wind and the surf looked really wild. We decided against that spot and then tried the beach near our little neighborhood. That was a great success. I caught 2 Catfish and a Whiting all of which were big enough to fillet. Grandpa caught one or two, and I think Dad caught one. Collin caught another Catfish that was also big enough to fillet. Timmy didn't catch anything and Mandy was too busy playing in the sand. Mom caught a large Catfish but that was all because she mostly went around taking pictures of everyone else's catches.
The day after that Collin caught one large Catfish and so did dad but we threw Dad's back because it was an egg filled female. We don't like Caviar. No one else caught anything that day but a guy who was fishing down the beach from us caught a really big Machrel. Apparently he didn't like Macherel, so he gave the fish to us! I'm telling you, this fish was about 20 inches long give or take a few centimeters! We still haven't tried the meat yet.
The third day we went back to the beach and timmy finally caught his first fish!! Boy was he happy. He managed to catch two fish that day. Both catfish, but neither of them were big enough to keep. Everyone else caught a whole lot of nothing. After staying at the beach for a while, we tried the Getty, then we tried the warf again, but had no success. Well, I shouldn't say that, both Grandpa and Timmy caught an eel. And I got some serious jerks but no matter how hard I tried I never could get a hook in that sucker. I swear it was the same fish.
Every evening was the same deal. We came back dog tired, and freezing cold. The wind would not go away. And my matress sucked, but hey, nothing's ever perfect, and we still had a great time!

Traveling

So tomorrow my family and I will be traveling to Port Aransas and we will be there until late Sunday night. I will be taking pictures of the fishing and hopefully the catches. Then I will post a summery of my weekend. See you all later!

Recent Events

Okay, so I finally figured out how to put paypal on my website. It was so easy, I must have been super brain dead the first time I tried it (and failed).

I quit my job at Hancock Fabrics several weeks ago and I now have lots of freetime on my hands, I'll be coming to Co-op on Fridays now. YAY!!

Saturday night I gave Mandy her bath. We got onto the topic of bubbles (you must understand this girl never stops talking) and I asked her if she could make bubbles by putting her face in the water. She said, "no, but I can do this," and she put her face down super close to the water and blew on it. Needless to say, there weren't a lot of bubbles. So I showed her how to blow bubbles the proper way. I put my face all the way in the water and exhaled through my nose making bubbles stream out on both sides of my face. She thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen.

Today, Mom had a doctor's appointment so she and I went down there leaving the rest of the kids with Collin and after the appointment was over we stopped at Terra Nova Violins and I rented my very first violin. Oh, we also went over to Ideal Feet and Mom got some really good insoles, but that's not nearly as exciting as me getting a violin!!!! I'm so excited!! I started playing with it right away and I now have the middle C scale figured out...mostly.

Shipping Costs in my business

I failed to mention in the last post that those of you who already know me personally and are local (like, everyone from church or the hope group) you will not have to pay shipping. I can't set that up via ebay so when ever you buy one of my items, let me know via email: amyssoapsnthings@yahoo.com and I will give you a check refunding the shipping costs that Ebay charged.

I will also need you to let me know the best time and place for you to pick up your purchased item, be it at church or bible study or where ever.

My new post

So at the prompting of Cheyenne, I'm writing a new post.

Thanksgiving was really nice, well, Thanksgiving day that is. The family all ate together and enjoyed delicious turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and homemade Pumpkin pie. Then I took a nice walk with Opa and later again with Mom, Grandma and Grandpa, Collin and Timmy. We saw a whole herd of deer and watched as the lone buck bossed his harem around to his heart's content.
The day after Thanksgiving was not so fun. I went to work early and took care of the huge crowd of customers for nine hours straight. There weren't too many grumpy people so that was nice but I was very tired and my brain was completely fried when I got home.

Today I made tortillas for our dinner this evening. I also made Mrs. Russell's Pumpkin Pie Latte for myself as I felt I needed (read: wanted) the caffine. I ended up adjusting the recipe to my own personal taste, and in the process, discovered that I like pumpkin puree. That's right, no sugar, no spices, just plain old stewed pumpkin.
Ken Ham would be proud.

A little story

The Great Battle

Amy, Princess of the Fehrenbach Kingdom, had recently been spending the week recovering from the previous Monday’s Wisdom Teeth Removal Act and by the following Friday was starting to feel a bit better. This was good news to Princess Amy’s dear, tired mother since an invitation had come that Friday morning, inviting Princess Amy’s mother, Queen Teresa, to Tammy Queen of the Smith’s dominion for an evening get together with friends. At first, Queen Teresa was reluctant to leave the Fehrenbach Kingdom in the hands of Princess Amy on the basis of the fact that Princess Amy was still recovering. Princess Amy insisted, however, that she go and so Queen Teresa gladly conveyed her appreciation of the invitation as well as her intention of attending during that afternoon’s Co-op classes which were held in the happy and rather spacious kingdom of Warrens. Now Princess Amy had been feeling quite well that day and had decided to join in on the invigorating games of Co-op which afterwards left her feeling winded, but otherwise quite refreshed. After Co-op, Queen Teresa, Princess Amy, Crowned Prince Collin, Prince Timothy and Princess Amanda, all got into the royal (and slightly well used) carriage and went back to the Fehrenbach Castle for a short respite and the evening meal. Before the evening meal, Queen Teresa went to her quarters to prepare for the coming evening by taking a nap; for naturally, as all authentic queens know, a nap is always and essential element in preparing for an evening get together. Princess Amy too took a small nap, mostly due to the fact that little Princess Amanda had fallen asleep on her, so she was still feeling quite well. Little did she know that two shadows lay in wait near-by.
Dr. Painthrob and Mr. Exaustion had been hired by Princess Amy’s banished wisdom teeth to cause as much trouble and possible. These two agents of evil loved their jobs and lay in wait just outside the castle looking for an opportunity to strike. They hadn’t been having much luck that day, Princess Amy’s constant and loyal body-guard, Sir Ibuprofen, had kept a watchful guard the entire day. Tonight promised to be different however as Princess Amy had decided to try switching to Sir Tylenol instead. Dr. Painthrob and Mr. Exaustion were hoping that during the switch, they would have a chance to attack.
Just after the evening meal, the opportunity came. Sir Ibuprofen was beginning to fade and Sir Tylenol had not yet clocked in. Dr. Painthrob watched as Princess Amy saw her mother out the door and then said, "The mother’s gone, sack her!"
Rushing in to the house the evil doers rushed Sir Ibuprofen as he vainly fought to keep them away from his charge.
Not yet feeling the effects of the attack, Princess Amy told the two Princes that it was time for them to do the dishes as it was their daily chore.
The Princes began to protest just as Dr. Painthrob delivered a fatal blow to Sir Ibuprofen and then moved on to Princess Amy.
"Oh, boy," Princess Amy murmured to herself. No, she thought, I can’t let this effect me. And taking a deep breath, Princess Amy pushed on. Her thundering voice landed like a clap of thunder on the Princes’ ears, "I don’t care what Prince Timothy is doing, get the dishes done, NOW! Prince Timothy! You left the table a full ten minutes ago, so don’t bother trying to tell me that you are still hungry. Pick your lazy butt up off of that chair and go help your brother!"
"Aw man," Prince Collin groaned, "If Prince Timothy has to carry his butt then he won’t be able to hold the dishes!"
Thus went the next half-hour. Princess Amy cracked the proverbial whip over the Princes, Princess Amanda surprisingly yet providentially still sleeping upstairs and Dr. Painthrob and Mr. Exaustion pounding away at Princess Amy’s skull.
When the half-hour was up, Princess Amy had managed to put the boys to bed early (because of their bad behavior) and was finally able to sit down.
Dr. Painthrob saw this as a fantastic opportunity and said, "This is wonderful, you sit on this arm rest and I’ll sit on this one and we’ll play a beat that’ll make her head explode."
But just as the two had gotten into their positions, Sir Tylenol came rushing in, "Sorry I’m late your majesty," he said, "Sinus Road was packed." And with that, he picked up Dr. Painthrob and Mr. Exaustion and threw them out the door.
The End
side note: This is not an acurate account of the way my evening went. I just thought it would make for a cute little story. I should also note that I did try to formate the paragraphs correctly but it seems that blogger doesn't comprehend the necessity of tabs.

Wisdom Teeth

Okay, so for an update, at 8:00 O'clock this morning, I took my medication and sat down to let it take effect. Just like the nurse said, it took around fifteen minutes for it to kick in. When it did kick in, I felt a little tipsy but not nearly as bad as I had expected it to be. Collin and I had lots of fun pretending I was his drunk friend that needed to be taken, sorry, dragged home. At 9:00, I arrived at the oral surgeon's office and got prepped for surgery. I remember seeing them put in an I.V. catheter (which really hurt, by the way), putting in the oxygen tube, I remember them putting a paperish thing ontop of me and that's it. The next thing I remember is waking up in the living room chair a couple hours later with two giant peices of gauze stuck in my mouth and an incredible thirst.
Turns out mom had lots of fun trying to get me back home. They had to put me in a wheelchair and transport me to the car, stuff my tispy rear-end into the front seat of the car and drive me home. Then both Mom and Collin held me up as I tried to walk into the house. For those of you who have been to my house you know about the little step that leads up to the front door. Being in the drugged state that I was, I almost didn't make it. It's a really good thing Collin was there otherwise Mom might have thrown out her back trying to catch me.
All in all, though, it went really well. I sat in the livingroom up until 5:00 and then came up stairs to find something to do other than watch movies. I feel completely normal except for the fact that I have the extra long end of the stitches to play with on one side. heeheehee.

George

So a few weeks ago, I, Mom and the other kids had just arrived home after picking me up from work when and dog came up to me. The dog was Daisy, our next door neighbor's totally neglected dog. Our neighbors pretty much never give her any attention so as a result, she bonded with me, the girl who actually took the time to lean over the fence and pet her every once in a while. Anyway, somehow Daisy had managed to open the gate of her yard and get out. Seeing me she was over joyed of course and rushed to my side and, just like I had taught her, she sat down and didn't jump up on me. I was very proud. Unfortunately, we had to cut Daisy's freedom short and return her to her own yard because, naturally, her owners were not home. As we were in the middle of trying to get Daisy into her yard (I haven't taught her how to walk with me just yet) a white and gray cat stood on the front awning and meowed at us. We said hello to him when our task was completed and then all went inside. Apparently, this cat had decided that he liked us and made himself at home in our backyard from then up until this last Sunday. Due to the fact that, 1, Dad isn't really a cat person and 2 we had just spent quite a bit of money on the cat we already had, the cat's persistent request for a home amongst us was spurned. Still, we couldn't help but name him George, hence my title. We're not sure why we settled on Greorge, I guess the cat just looked like a George. But last Sunday, we finally gave him up. We e-mailed the Deladurantes and asked them if they would like to have a friendly cat to go along with their two very unfriendly cats. They said yes and picked him up on Sunday and the last thing we saw of George was his paw up against the window of the van. It was kind of a sad picture, but I'm sure he'll come to like his new home just as much or even better than he did ours.

My Blog

So I thought I would inform those of my readers who don't have an account with this site that I've set the site to allow anonymous commentors. At least I'm pretty sure I have, I'll have to check the settings again just to make sure.
I've also put up a poll so if you want, vote on it please!

Stomach problems

I'm having stomach problems. I'm not sure what it's coming from but I have this stomach ache in the evenings and the mornings. But it disappears in the middle of the day. I also haven't been eating well the past couple of days. I think it's time I took Cheyenne's advice and loaded up on some beans. I'll add a bit of Spearmint tea to the regiment as well. I hope I'll make it to church on Sunday.

Funny, funny

So I've always hated the movie Gone With The Wind. I don't know how people can enjoy watching that sniveling, pampered brat known as Scarlet O'Hara make a living out of walking, stomping and spitting on others and trying to make herself look all high and mighty in the process. I do however, absolutely love Carol Burnett's rendition of the famed "masterpiece". Most of my readers have probably already seen it before, but just in case you haven't, here it is.

They're here!

Grandma and Grandpa finally moved down to Texas.
Okay, so this is kind of old news for most of my readers but oh well. This will be the first time in my life that all four of my grandparents are living close by! Now for the cousins...(and the plotting commences). Haha

The other day, I was reading A Light In The Window by Jan Karon, the second installation of the Mitford Series, and I read yet again about one of the character's, Ester Bolick's, famous Orange Marmalade Cake. Well, I was kind of hungry at the time, so I decided to look up the recipe on line. I typed Orange Marmalade Cake into the google search engine and wouldn't you know, the first thing to come up was "Esther Bolick's famous Orange Marmalade Cake" posted by non other than Jan Karon herself! Needless to say I printed out the recipe and the day mom came back with the ingredients I needed I made the cake. That was last night. It wasn't fully completed until around midnight but it looks absolutely fantastic and I got enough cake scraps together to figure out that it tastes absolutely divine. I hope to make it for Bible study one of these days and I also plan to post the recipe and pictures soon. I can't wait to cut into it. Because today is mom's birthday, I used that as an excuse to make the cake. Now I have to wait until everyone is together before I get a slice. Oh well, good things come to those who wait I suppose.

Ahem,

So I kind of need to post on here. So much has happened this week.
On Monday, I got into an accident. I pulled out infront of a lady who was going down Bandera rd. Nobody was injured but both cars were really smashed up. It wasn't a nice experience at all. The next morning I discovered slight muscle soreness in the side of my neck, in my upper right arm and in a muscle over my hip. It wasn't too bad, but the muscle soreness in my neck combined with a sore throat and aching jaw (because of my TMJ) made my head pound for three days straight.

On Wednesday morning I woke up with a low grade fever. Remember that sore throat I mentioned a few lines up? Yeah, it turned into strep and tonsilitis. Fortunately it only took one day for the doctor to call back so I was able to get my antibiotic called in quickly.

Saturday, at about noon, we got a call from Opa letting us know that Oma was on her way to the hospital with chest pains. I, Dad and Opa waited in the ER waiting area for about ten minutes, and then got taken to the Cardiology waiting room and stayed there for about an hour before the doctor came in and told us that she was going to be okay. Apparently, she had suffered a heart attack caused by three blockages in one of the smaller arteries on the right. The doctor put stents in all three areas and then they moved her to CICU where she is right now. Through this ordeal we hope to be finally successful in convincing Oma that the fat is not "the best part"!

This morning, I got to go to church! Mandy and Mom stayed home. I guess Mandy couldn't stay far enough away from me, she has a fever of aproximately 103.2 . She's slept a lot today, and I don't blame her. She's not going to be the easiest patient when the real throat pain starts though. I hope mom will let me help with her. Mom is already very worn out.

Timmy

He's feeling much better now. In fact he was at bible study tonight! Mom took him to the doctor on Monday and found out that he was actually fighting an infected tonsil! Poor kid. But the doctor gave out a perscription (gotta love those guys) and Timmy is all back to normal now. So, we will be at church on Sunday!! See you all there!

Quarantine

Timmy got sick the other day and it seems to be the same bug that's visited the Russells and Krugs. As a result, we are now under quarantine and needless to say, we will not be attending church tomorrow.
On another subject, Mom still hasn't given me any pictures of my graduation party. I do plan on posting them as soon as I get them, but I should warn you, there may not be very many of them.
Collin and I escaped from the quarantine facility this afternoon and saw WALL-E. I totally recommend it to anyone. It was absolutely adorable.

I'm Back!

I came back late Sunday afternoon with Mr. Blair, Nathan and the Braddocks from the Rio Grande Missions trip! It was a lot of fun. I got to babysit some of the little ones during which time, Addy, David, Genevive and Ethan decided that they liked me. Ethan and I were kind of off to a rough start though. He wasn't too happy about being left in the nursury while his mom went off to work. He kept picking up a toy that sort of looked like a hammer and running out the door with it saying, "I need to go help Mom." After he discovered that escaping would be impossible, he pulled one of the little chairs up to the door, looked out the window and called, "Mom, HELP!" After calling for mom three times and discovering that it was useless he tried Celeste's name. After he gave up all hope of being "rescued" he settled down to running all over the room showing me all the cool things he could do with all the toys. Once Genevive woke up from her nap he got even happier 'cause I let him go out into the fenced in playground. By the time Mom came to get him he was actually smiling at me.
Both David and Genevive chose me over their sisters at least once during the day, and Addy just enjoyed the excessive amount of toys.
That was pretty much my day. I didn't really do anything else and to be honest, I don't feel like I was really that useful at all. But it was nice to be with the church family and I REALLY enjoyed singing with Cheyenne for the first time since we've become friends. We really need to do it more often.
Nathan and Josh's skit was hilarious. I hope Shelley or someone video taped it.
Some of the younger kids did their own skits, they did really well. Their Psalty preview was classic.

Since Starting My Job...

I've discovered that really the only pain of it all is leaving in the morning knowing that I will miss every single wonderful thing that happens at home. Sigh. Oh well. I'm earning more money than I've ever earned before, and my boss really likes me! She actually came up to my mom today and told her that I was wonderful. I feel so flattered. She doesn't show nearly as much affection as the other employees; probably because she's the boss, so I was so happy to hear that she likes me. I don't mind her, in fact I really like her, I have no complaints about her, but I've always found that when someone gives a good report about me to my mom, they really mean it! That always makes me feel happier than if that person had actually said it to my face. It makes my mom pretty happy too.
I'm hoping to come on the missions trip this weekend. I need to find out who can take me home on Sunday night though so that I can get back to work on Monday. Haha, I'm gonna be soooooooo wiped out but I am so excited. I've never been on a missions trip before so this is going to be so awesome.
For those of you looking for some really good recipes, go here:

I'm going to try the Mexican Crepes tomorrow.

Haven't Been Here In A Long Time

So on Monday I started my first job! I'm working at Handcock Fabrics off of Bandera Rd. Unfortunately, I didn't discover just how bad my tennis shoes were until then. I'm now experiencing quite a bit of pain. I don't have to work tomorrow, however, so Mom is going to take me to get some new shoes. I was actually surprised at how slow the hours can go when your in so much pain. I was counting down the minutes left till five. I am actually enjoying my job though. It's really nice being able to work with all the fabrics and learn which is which beyond Cotton and Felt. haha.
